St Austell Brewery has gone double green – it’s extended its partnership with Plymouth Argyle FC and formed a new one with the Marine Conservation Society.

The Cornish company’s flagship brew Tribute Pale Ale has extended its long-standing partnership with Plymouth Argyle for a further three seasons, maintaining its position as the football club’s official beer.

The brewery’s ale has been a sponsor of the League One side for more than 10 years. The relationship stands at the heart of the brand’s association with team sports across the South West region, where clubs and competitions form part of the fabric of communities. Tribute Pale Ale is available for fans to enjoy at Home Park during the Green’s home games.

Laura McKay, head of marketing – beer and brands, at St Austell Brewery, said: “We are thrilled to extend our Plymouth Argyle sponsorship for a further three seasons. Tribute Pale Ale is synonymous with team sports and the football club has a long and proud history that’s deep-rooted in the local community.

“We look forward to the exciting season ahead, particularly after an extended period away from being able to attend football matches.”

James Greenacre, head of commercial operations at Argyle, said: “We’re thrilled to be extending our partnership with Tribute Pale Ale going into another season, and thank them for their unwavering support.

“Partnerships with renowned local brands whose ambitions align with our own is an important element of the club’s five-year plan to become a sustainable Championship club, and in Tribute Pale Ale we have found a great fit.”

The partnership comes as St Austell Brewery’s flagship lager brand, Korev, has announced a new partnership with the Marine Conservation Society. The UK’s leading marine environment not-for-profit organisation has also been named St Austell Brewery’s charity of the year. Created in Cornwall, Korev (4.8% abv) unveiled a new look earlier this year inspired by its home county and the coastline.

Supporting green, sustainable initiatives that help safeguard the environment is a mission that’s close to the brand and St Austell Brewery’s heart.

The Marine Conservation Society is a UK charity campaigning for a cleaner, better-protected, healthier ocean. The charity tackles threats to habitats and species by working closely with communities, businesses, and governments, organising beach cleans and shaping government policy.

Korev will be supporting the charity’s Great British Beach Clean; a week-long event from September 17 to 26 where hundreds of beach cleans take place nationwide.

The Marine Conservation Society logo will also be featuring on the lager’s 100% recyclable cardboard can packs soon.

In addition to the Korev partnership, the Marine Conservation Society has been named Charity of the Year by St Austell Brewery’s Charitable Trust.

The Trust is funded by contributions from the brewery, as well as donations from customers and fundraising events held at its head offices, depots, and pubs. Since it was launched in 2003, it’s donated more than £800,000 to charities and causes across the region.

Richard Roberts, corporate partnerships manager, Marine Conservation Society, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with St Austell Brewery’s korev lager and also thrilled to be named charity of the year by the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust. We are excited to work together towards a cleaner, better-protected, healthier ocean. One we can all enjoy.”

Ms McKay said: “We are very proud to be teaming up with the Marine Conservation Society, a charity that works tirelessly in its fight against the threat to our oceans.

“Korev is a brand that cares for the coastline and promotes a responsible approach to enjoying all that our unique and beautiful part of the world has to offer. We are proud to be playing a role in supporting the charity in its urgent mission for plastic free seas and helping raise awareness about the simple steps we can all take to protect our coastline.”

In April 2018, St Austell Brewery was awarded a Queen’s Award for sustainability across its operations and long-term commitment to green brewing and reducing the impact of its business on the environment. The company was praised for its ongoing investments to become more sustainable, including water treatment facilities, the installation of solar panels, achieving zero waste to landfill status across its managed pub estate, and establishing a barley growing partnership with Cornish farms.

Earlier this year, St Austell Brewery made the switch to a 100% renewable and sustainable supply of CO2, a crucial component in the company’s brewing and production process.
