A Merseyside community is poised for a major transformation with newly submitted plans for an extensive regeneration project in Huyton Village. The ambitious blueprint encompasses the construction of numerous homes, a brand-new library, a burgeoning commercial district with a hotel and fresh public spaces.
Knowsley Council has laid out a 10-year masterplan aiming to revitalise Huyton village centre. The proposal includes enhancing transport links to the village, with the aim of generating 1,700 new jobs and injecting £50 million into the economy.
In an upcoming cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, councillors are expected to greenlight a preliminary £3.6 million investment to move the project into its technical design and planning phase. This step will help to secure further funding and realising the development, according to the council.
The council session will also address approving demolition work at strategic sites, setting the stage for the ambitious multi-million-pound overhaul. A statement from Knowsley Council outlines their vision: “As part of the Huyton Masterplan, the council is proposing a complete redevelopment which would create a vibrant and thriving re-imagined centre, focused around an attractive village green.”
Over seven acres of land in Huyton town centre, dominated by council buildings from the 1970s now deemed unfit for purpose, are set for a major overhaul. The council has stated that demolishing these buildings will pave the way for more development opportunities in the town centre and facilitate the creation of a new energy-efficient office space suitable for modern working practices, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Plans also incorporate a new surface level car park with sustainable transport facilities, a new library and community hub at the village centre’s heart, and spaces for leisure, skills, and cultural activities.
Knowsley Council has indicated that later phases could see up to 150,000sq ft of additional commercial office space and/or up to a further 300 homes, all aimed at boosting footfall in the town centre and bolstering the local economy.
