ADVERTORIAL: Ørsted looking for apprentices and offering a career that could make a real difference to climate change

In the UK, Ørsted has hired 39 wind turbine technician apprentices since starting its programme in 2017. All nine apprentices who have completed their course so far, are now full-time employees of Ørsted.

Last year, the company had nearly 1,000 people apply and took on a cohort of turbine technician apprentices who are now studying their first year at either the Grimsby Institute for Further and Higher Education or at Furness College in Barrow.

Jack Taylor, second year apprentice wind turbine technician, said: “I am in my final year of my apprenticeship, and have recently been awarded Apprentice of the Year at my college. The team at Ørsted is so fantastic to be part of. I’ve really enjoyed learning new skills and working as part of a great team. I’m proud to be working in such a thriving industry that’s combating climate change and making a real difference.”

The programme spans across three and a half years and sees apprentices studying locally for their first year before taking up placements across the company. They then get hands-on experience working offshore at one of Orsted’s 12 UK offshore wind farms during their second and third years.

Rob Howes, lead apprentice specialist said: “We’re really proud to be opening the apprentice programme for the sixth year running. You don’t have to have experience, we’re looking for people with lots of passion and great teamwork skills. This is a great opportunity for people who want to be involved in the green energy revolution.”

Ørsted is a renewable energy company, who’s aim is to take tangible action to create a world that runs entirely on green energy, and this year is a proud category sponsor at the Humber Renewables Awards which are taking place on Thursday, June 9 at the South Bank, DoubleTree by Hilton Forest Pines Spa & Golf Resort in Lincolnshire. n

Over the past 30 years it has established the company as a global leader in offshore wind with a 25% market share. In addition to offshore wind, it has UK projects in onshore wind located in Scotland, renewable hydrogen – also known as green hydrogen – which will play a vital role in decarbonising industry and transport, energy storage from renewable sources and Renescience, an innovative bioenergy technology that converts unsorted household waste to energy using an enzyme treatment process.

Lauren Little, Ørsted’s Stakeholder Advisor, said: “Ørsted are the industry sponsor of the Humber Offshore Wind Cluster and we are proud to support the Humber Renewable Awards. The awards celebrate the success of businesses, organisations and brilliant people who are working on initiatives and activities to further the growth of the UK’s most established offshore wind cluster.

“We’re delighted to recognise many businesses large and small within our supply chain who have supported our growth as a company over the past decade. Good luck to all nominees.”
