Matching the right person with the right company is not as simple as ticking off a skills checklist and for Hunter Selection, is about so much more. With a national database of more than 50,000 candidates and clients returning again and again, the company has built up a strong reputation and forged trusted relationships since its inception in 2004.

For the team it is all about quality service – supporting businesses and creating long-term relationships. It specialises in engineering and manufacturing, service and technology sectors and has offices across England and Wales.

Within the technology division it has two distinctive specialist teams; IT support and infrastructure, recruiting for roles such as helpdesk engineers, network engineers and IT directors, and digital and development covering the likes of software developers, business analysts and software testers. It is also well established with many digital agencies.

Rob Baxter, Hunter’s technology divisional director, said: “We work with our clients and candidates to find out exactly what they want. We are looking to see not just candidates’ skills, but to understand what their career objectives are, what kind of business they want to work for and the values they have.

“From a client perspective, we are looking to understand their business, culture and objectives – are they somewhere that someone aspirational can go to and progress quickly, matching their aspirations.

“It is all about the long term for us, we are not in it for a quick buck. People can be (at a company) for years and become the client contact of tomorrow.”

In fact Hunter Solutions not only has clients and candidates returning to them for support, but has seen candidates who later become the client looking for staff.

“Clients trust our ability to understand what they do, what their business is and want to work with us,” said Rob. “We get to know the candidates, get to understand them, their motivations. We don’t see them as a unit of labour we get a fee for – we try to give them as positive an experience as we can.”

Award sponsors

The company, which has previously been involved in both the Bristol Live Gold Star and Apprenticeship Awards, has an ethos of team work and community and this led them to be part of the Bristol Live Business Awards 2022 as a sponsor.

“This one appeals as we are very much at the heart of Bristol and South West business and to be able to support an award like this, where there are lots of organisations, is great,” said Rob.

The awards, run in association with BusinessLive and newspaper Bristol Post, recognises the city’s best and brightest companies, bringing together senior leaders from wide-ranging industries, from large corporates to fast-growing start-ups. The ceremony will take place at Ashton Gate Stadium on November 24.

Professional problem solving

According to Rob, there has never been a better time to find employment where tech jobs are concerned. “We are very much a candidate driven market” he said. “There have never been more vacancies around than at the moment.

“Because of the history we have, our database and relationships, we will find the best person. I see our business as a professional problem solving business.

“We know recruitment is difficult and can be a real challenge for those who don’t do it every day and we try to make it as easy and as seamless as possible.”
