Aldi drops ‘unacceptable’ proposal for supermarket at North Wales military site
Aldi has withdrawn its interest in building a store on a former Territorial Army site in North Wales in a move welcomed by the local MP who had called the proposal “unacceptable”.
Back in 2016 the Army Reserve Centre, on the corner of Marine Road and Bastion Road in Prestatyn, was sold to the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Wales.
It was later placed on the market by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Last year North Wales Live revealed that Aldi had made an offer on the site.

It is understood the German firm planned to relocate from an existing store on Meliden Road in the town.
But a property source says that Aldi has now withdrawn its interest in the former TA site.
Vale of Clwyd MP James Davies said: “I welcome the news that Aldi has chosen not to progress an application on the site of the former TA Centre in Prestatyn.
“This building is something of a landmark in the town. I met Aldi to discuss their plans last year and was very clear with them that their intentions to demolish it in its entirety were unacceptable.
“We can be more ambitious for the site, which is prominent and increasingly untidy.

Aldi and site agent Avison Young said they could not comment.
It is understood an alternative offer has been made on the site but no further details are available at this stage.
