A Cornish holiday company has been named one of the best travel companies to work for in the UK.
Truro-based Cornish Gems was recognised as one of the Top 20 Best Workplaces in Travel at the Best Workplaces in Travel Awards. The survey-based awards recognise the best operators in the travel industry using employee feedback.
Cornish Gems, which was founded in 2007 and employs 100 staff, was the only Cornish travel company to make the shortlist, alongside industry giants such as Kuoni, Easyjet Holidays, Panache Cruises and Intrepid.
Following an extensive employee questionnaire, the independently owned company, which manages a portfolio of more than 200 properties across Cornwall, achieved a staff net promoter score of 76 – 15 points ahead of the UK industry benchmark of 61.
Cornish Gems co-founder Julianne Shelton said: “To be recognised as one of the elite top 20 companies to work for in travel within the UK is a very special accomplishment indeed.
“Our team truly are the gems of our business, and we appreciate everyone’s individual contribution towards making Cornish Gems a great place to work. Over the years we’ve invested heavily to develop meaningful company values, effective leadership, and management along with creating motivating reward and recognition strategies to engage our team. This award means the world to us.”
Ms Shelton, her co-founder Nadia Macer-Wright, and Michelle Baillie, the company’s commercial director, attended the award celebration on May 4, hosted at the newly opened One Hundred Shoreditch Hotel in London – where the winners were revealed.
Best Workplaces in Travel is a new awards designed to identify brilliant businesses through employee feedback. The awards were stablished by workplace culture experts Gail Kenny Executive Recruitment and Purple Cubed.
