Devon artisan cheesemaker Quicke’s enjoys mail order boost
Devon-based artisan cheesemaker Quicke’s has increased its mail order operation as post-lockdown demand continues to grow from customers who have switched to “at-home dining”.
The company, based at Newton St Cyres near Exeter, is known for its time-honoured methods and recipes as well as innovative ideas including its letterbox cheese packages that arrive in a sustainable box.
Kate Rippin, product manager at Quicke’s, said: “Consumer trends are changing and have accelerated during the various lockdowns too. People are now much more tuned into buying online from home and having their food items delivered to them.
“They are now creating dining experiences at home, reclaiming their dining rooms and setting up instagrammable tablescapes to wow their friends and we are delighted to be a part of this experience.”
The branded packaging used for Quicke’s mail order products are designed and manufactured by Newton Print using sustainable materials and a Carbon Balanced production method. These reflect the cheesemaker’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, while providing a high-quality product for customers to enjoy at home.
Simon Besley, sales and marketing director, said: “To meet this growing customer demand for mail order, our client Quicke’s created a new product so consumers could enjoy the delights of cheese tasting at home.
“We were approached to help develop and produce an on-brand, printed postal box for their new cheese tasting home delivery service that could fit samples through a letterbox and protect the cheese inside while maintaining their design identity.“Not only do the boxes look the part, delivering on Quicke’s brand values, they are also recyclable and sustainable, thanks in part to our Carbon Balanced initiative.”

In 2020, Quicke teamed up with Bavarian cheesemaker Hofkäserei Kraus to produce a hybrid cheese blending clothbound cheddar with Alpine cheese called AlpenCheddar.
Nurturing the family’s land for 14 generations, Quicke’s is run today by renowned dairy farmer and cheese producer Mary Quicke, managing director. In 2005, she received an MBE for her contribution to farming and cheese-making. And in 2019 she was named Dairy Industry Woman of the Year at the Women in Dairy Conference.
