A driver ended up in a river after police used a stinger spike strip to stop his car on a road in Worcestershire.

Officers from the Worcestershire Operations Patrol Unit (OPU) of West Mercia Police were in search of a wanted man when they spotted the vehicle in the area of the market town of Pershore.

It failed to stop, so officers deployed the stinger, they reported on the OPU Worcestershire Twitter account.

And the driver ended up in the River Avon before being held by police.

The OPU tweeted: “This Astra containing a wanted male failed to stop in the Pershore area – vehicle stung and driver detained following a dip in the River Avon.”

Officers were also involved in stopping a lorry on the M5 near junction 4.

They discovered it was cloned – using false number plates – and the driver tested positive for drugs.

He also failed to provide a sample and was charged and bailed to appear in court

The OPU tweeted: “Pre-emptive tactics used to stop this LGV on the M5 near junction 4. Found to be cloned and the driver provided a positive @DrugWipeUK #drugdrive”.

“Driver failed to provide, charged and bailed to court.”
