Kellogg’s, Bentley and Crown Paints: List of North West companies used by the Queen and Prince of Wales as country celebrates Platinum Jubilee weekend

Companies based across the North West hold royal warrants of appointment which allow them to advertise the fact they supply the issuer with their products or services.

The Queen and the Prince of Wales have issued a number of royal warrants to businesses in the region over the decades.

Household names as well as less well-known firms hold the prestigious warrants which can be displayed on their products.

Below, BusinessLive lists some of the companies in the region who hold a royal warrant.

Bentley (Image: Bentley)

Bentley Motors was founded in 1919 by WO Bentley and is now owned by VW Group.

Its headquarters in Crewe – since 1946 – is home to all of its operations including design, R&D, engineering and production of the company’s three model lines, Bentayga, Continental GT, and Flying Spur.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen and the Prince of Wales.

Crown Paints, which can trace its roots back to 1777, is headquartered in Darwen, Lancashire.

It has been owned by the Denmark-based Hempel Group since 2011. The company also has a major manufacturing plant in Hull.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Gilbert Gilkes & Gordon is a privately-owned manufacturing business based in Kendal, Cumbria.

Founded in 1853, Gilkes specialise in the design, assembly, installation and commissioning of hydroelectric schemes, as well as the design and manufacture of engine cooling pumps.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Griffen Mill

Griffen Mill is the only producer of handmade book and conservation papers in Britain and supplies leading conservators, bookbinders, museums, presses, and artists worldwide.

In late 2021 production was transferred to a new mill in the Lake District with Griffen becoming a division of the Paper Foundation, a charity dedicated to preserving traditional paper-making skills and know-how in associated arts and crafts.

Griffen papers are handmade from traditional natural fibres such as cotton, hemp and abaca or recycled materials.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Liverpool-headquartered Hobs Repro is an independent reprographics company.

It provides print products and runs every stage of the process: from concept and graphic design through to high-resolution digital printing, bespoke finishing and delivery using our own couriers.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Indespension

Indespension is a nationwide trailer and towing company.

The Horwich-based business manufactures and sells a range of trailers and trailer parts for plants, cars, livestock, marine and goods trailers.

It has branches across the UK and Ireland which provide trailer and towing services including sales, hire and towbar fitting services.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Renshaw A heart cake made by Renshaw, part of Liverpool-based The Real Good Food Company.

Renshaw is a Liverpool-headquartered food manufacturing company established in 1898, specialising in baking and cake decorating products.

It has been a royal warrant holder since 1950, and serves the Royal Household as purveyors of almond products.

Renshaw also exports to more than 30 countries worldwide.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Established in 1799, James Baxter & Son produces the original potted shrimp from Morecambe, Lancashire.

Baxters Potted Shrimps are produced in 50g, 100g and 200g cartons.

As specialists in the mail order service, our shrimps are dispatched fresh to individuals and catering establishments alike.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Kellogg’s Kellogg’s Corn Flakes

Established in 1898 the company was founded in the United States by William Keith Kellogg and today operates in 180 countries worldwide.

it’s UK headquarters is based at MediaCity in Salford.

As one of the largest cereal manufacturers, Kellogg’s UK and Ireland products include Corn Flakes, Special K and Rice Krispies.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Morrells

Offering advanced British wood finish technology with over a century of experience, Morrells is the largest manufacturer of high-performance interior wood finishes in the UK.

The Stockport-based company delivers next day to furniture joinery and woodworking companies across the country.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Peter Reed

Peter Reed has been making fine bed and table linens in Lancashire since 1861.

The Nelson-based company’s manufacturing process is entirely in-house, and everything is made to order.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

R.B Woodhall (Waberthwaite)

The company is known for its traditionally cured hams, bacon and sausages.

The family-run business uses the same recipes and techniques as its ancestors did more than 185 years ago.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

H&L Russel

H&L Russel is a housewares wholesaler established in 1981, supplying coat hangers, soft storage, vacuum bags, laundry, clothes care, kitchen utensils, garment rails and shoe racks.

The Cheshire-based business supplies to a broad spectrum of UK businesses from independents to supermarkets, from hotels to department stores.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Sovereign Chemicals is a supplier of specialist products for the remediation and construction industries.

The Cumbria business manufactures and distributes many specialist materials for solving problems in buildings and damp areas as well as a wide range of general construction products such as adhesives, sealants and coatings.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Town Talk

Since 1895 Town Talk has been known for its quality silver and jewellery care products including polishing cloths, liquid cleaners, polishes and silver storage solutions.

The Bolton business supplies silversmiths, jewellers and department stores worldwide, both under its own brand and as private label.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.

Minky Homecare

Established in the UK in 1941, Vale Mill (Rochdale), trading as Minky Homecare, is a laundry hardware and textile manufacturer.

Minky remains a family-owned business and over 80% of our products are still made at its factories in the North West of England.

It was issued with a royal warrant by the Queen and the Prince of Wales.

Warner House

Founded in 1870, Warner has supplied furnishing fabrics to prominent interior designers and important residences around the world.

Warner House is based in Wilmslow, Cheshire, and has held a royal warrant since 1932.

It was most recently issued with a royal warrant by the Queen.
