Ruthin hair salon devastated by flooding reopens after six months
A hair salon hit by devastating flooding at the start of the year reopened this week after a major renovation.
Tommy’s Hair Company – run by Dutch owners Tommy and Esther van Der Veken – opened on Clwyd Street in Ruthin back in 2005 and has been successful in the town.
But in January, Tommy’s, along with many other neighbouring businesses and homes were sadly left with a trail of destruction following flash flooding throughout the town centre – leaving the salon under a large amount of water.
Once assessed, Esther and Tommy took the decision to fully renovate the salon, taking the interior back to the bare brick and rebuilding what has been their pride and joy for 16 years.
It reopened to customers on Tuesday.
Esther, who said the salon had built up a longstanding and loyal clientele over the years, said: “After a long lockdown and many salon closures following the global pandemic, we were devastated that our Ruthin salon was destroyed by the flash flooding. Along with many other local businesses we had to start from the beginning and rebuild.
“We have worked so closely with our team of tradesman and insurance and cannot wait to show off and introduce everyone to our newly refurbished salon.
“It’s been a long time coming.”
