Security company crowned Solihull’s Business of the Year

A security company which has been trading for more than three decades has been crowned Solihull’s top business.

MAN Commercial Protection was named overall business of the year at the annual Solihull Awards, run by the town’s chamber of commerce.

The firm, which is based in Shirley, was founded in 1993 and provides fully trained security officers throughout the UK, holding SIA approved contractor status for security guarding, door supervision, CCTV and key holding services.

It works with a broad range of clients such as Telford International Centre, Transport for West Midlands, yachting firm Sunseeker London, Black Country Living Museum and Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Judges were impressed with the way MAN Commercial Protection “looked at and diversified their offer and supply services for people, businesses and the wider community”.

The panel acknowledged the security sector was a difficult one to be in and said it was a real testament to MAN Commercial Protection for being in business as long as it had been.

The Solihull Awards 2024 was held last night at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole at the NEC and welcomed more than 300 guests, with BBC West Midlands presenter PJ Ellis as host.

Twelve different awards were handed out, with MAN Commercial Protection taking home the training, education and development in people category before being picked ahead of the other winners to be crowned business of the year.

Tourist body Visit Knowle and emergency evacuation chair manufacturer Evac+Chair International were both double winners.

Solihull Chamber’s president Eileen Schofield presented her President’s Award to Steve Whitmarsh, chief executive officer of vehicle management firm Run Your Fleet.
