Welsh coastal village saw biggest hike in property searches on Rightmove last year
A village in North Wales saw the biggest hike in property searches last year while two Welsh communities were in the top ten for price hikes.
Property website Rightmove revealed Rhos On Sea in Wales has topped the list of buyer search hotspots – with the biggest increase in buyer searches compared with 2020.
Searches for the coastal town increased more than nine times (+858%) compared to 2020.
Meanwhile the property website also announced the 10 areas with the biggest price increases in the UK over the last year.
It included Porthcawl in South Glamorgan, where prices increased by 14% to an average of £307,051 – putting it fourth on the list.
Pwllheli in Gwynedd was eighth on the list with an increase of 13% to an average of £222,607.
The last year has seen protests in Wales over spiralling house prices in the Welsh language heartlands – with fears it is pricing young people out of their communities.
Welsh Government has promised action to address this but campaigners want them to do more and move more rapidly.
Rightmove said last year had seen home buyers target coastal areas and that the “trend looks set to continue in 2022”.
They saiid: “Some of the most popular coastal areas have seen a big jump in average asking prices, especially in the West Country, with several towns and villages in Devon and Cornwall seeing the biggest price growth in the past 12 months.
“Padstow in Cornwall topped the list, but the beautiful beaches of North Yorkshire, Wales, and Lincolnshire have also proved they hold irresistible allure to buyers looking for a completely new way of life.”
