A Manchester accountancy firm has been acquired by West Midlands-based DJH Mitten Clarke as the practice looks to grow its client base in the North West.

The Stoke-on-Trent-based business said the acquisition of Lloyd Piggott will provide it with a “springboard” into central Manchester, and is the latest step forward for the group, which has seen 50% growth in the last quarter – and now has a 249 strong-team.

DJH Mitten Clarke’s executive director, Scott Heath said: “It has always been a personal ambition to open a substantial Manchester city centre office and we started to make progress taking space within WeWork in Spinningfields, but then the pandemic hit.

“Our conversations with the team at Lloyd Piggott opened up a new opportunity that is right for our business, and more importantly our team.”

He continued: “When bringing two firms together, it’s always critical to make decisions based on culture and ours are very much aligned; they’re honourable, they’re ambitious and above all, they’re passionate about people and the community.”

Lloyd Piggott’s Sue Redmond will continue to lead the Manchester team, alongside tax director Paula Abbott and client services directors Chris Abbott and Joanne Beamish.

The latest partnership follows the acquisition of Chester’s Morris & Co in April, and achieves over 50% growth in year one for the newly combined DJH Mitten Clarke.

After operating separately for 61 collective years, Stoke-on-Trent based businesses, Mitten Clarke and DJH merged in March 2021, becoming Staffordshire’s market leading independent firm.

Lloyd Piggott’s Sue Redmond, said: “Since our story began over 125 year ago, we’ve always looked out for positive new partnerships and innovative thinking, and this is why we’ve been successful.

“Although our past is important to us, it’s our future that counts, so it is crucial that we seize great opportunities at the right moment to carry on moving forward.

“DJH Mitten Clarke bring with them a number of specialist services, such as capital allowances, R&D, wealth management and commercial & residential funding, along with group services such as marketing, learning and development and recruitment. Ultimately, this will enhance the advice and support we offer our clients.”

She added: “Our aim is to create the very best place to work and the new partnership will also allow investment in wellbeing, training and social programmes; all key to us working together as a happy team.”

St. George’s House will remain home for the Lloyd Piggott team – but as of October 4, it will take on the name DJH Mitten Clarke, becoming the Manchester office of the practice.
