A German technology company is seeking to hire more than a hundred engineers in the coming quarters in Cambridge and Bristol and set up specialist design centres in each.
Rupert Baines, former CEO of Cambridge-based UltraSOC, has just been appointed chief marketing officer of Codasip, a leading supplier of customisable RISC-V processor IP.
Codasip is also casting the net for talent further afield as it brokers in a large element of remote engineers, arguing that it wants the best people regardless of location; other new offices may be opened by the Munich-based business which operates globally.
In terms of numbers in each of those centres, it depends on who it can recruit in each. However, given the large pool of talented and experienced engineers and graduates in Cambridge, the expectation is that a healthy percentage of Codasip engineers will be hired and based there.
In terms of the design centre location in Cambridge, discussions are underway but not finalised as yet; obviously the numbers recruited locally will have a bearing on the size of the facility.
Codasip is expanding rapidly; its customisable processor cores based on RISC-V and other standard architectures are in increasing demand by sectors and applications across the board as companies strive to differentiate their products to remain competitive.
Globally, Codasip already has a presence in China, and the US – two of its key markets. Europe has a huge potential to grow in RISC-V, but is currently behind those two higher growth markets.
The new design centre will be headed by newly appointed director Simon Bewick, an experienced semiconductor industry executive who recently joined Codasip’s management supervisory board.These sites complement Codasip’s existing development teams in Sofia Antipolis France, Munich Germany, and Brno Czech Republic.
Bewick was most recently a VP Engineering at Mindtech Global where he led the development of several complex, advanced-node ASICs. Prior to that he was an EVP at Imagination and a director of ASIC development at Ericsson. He also previously held engineering management positions with LSI Logic.
