FTSE 100 Live 16 August: UK retail sales, index steady

London’s main stock index is steady after a positive trading week took it back towards the level it held before the sell-off earlier in the summer.

Retail sales numbers reaching City forecasts helped the improving mood, but the rally among housebuilders left the sector looking a little tired by the end of week.
